Gerald van Wyck
Gerald van Wyck is a noted choral and orchestral director, and adjudicator. He first came to British Columbia as Music Director at West Vancouver United Church where he remains today. He conducts the Pacific Spirit Choir, a community choir of over 90 voices, performing large and small scale choral gems. His innate musical talent, versatility and tireless energy are also shared at Vancouver Community College, where he is Head of Choral Activities, and where he instructs in Music History and Conducting. He is also sought after as a Choral Clinician at musical festivals across Canada. For thirteen years he was Artistic Director of the BC Boys Choir, with whom he toured and recorded internationally, leaving them in 2003 to pursue activities in orchestral and opera conducting. He has been Assistant Conductor of the Vancouver Island Symphony, and of Sinfonia Orchestra of the North Shore, as well as conductor of the Vancouver Island Opera. He is also a popular guest speaker on music, offering talks for Capilano College Elder College, the West Vancouver Library, the Vancouver Symphony and many other organizations. In 2009 he started the Pacific Spirit Children's Choir, which has now grown to over 80 singers across three levels of choirs. Mr. van Wyck is a passionate believer in musicís ability to inspire and create community. He was awarded the 2003 FANS Legacy Award by the North Shore arts community.
